Gambar Paling Sorens

The idea for the zine came in the first half of 2018 after Hidayat completed a year-long tour project. With the spare time that he got, he thought of doing some side passion project and at the top of his mind was to write a book (since he had written one back in 2015). But writing a book seems like a tall order because a lot of resources are required to finish one. So, instead, let’s do a zine, he thought. A zine was a lot easier and as a medium of expression, the sky is the limit. After carefully thinking about it, he got inspired by a Small Ass Zine that was done by someone in the creative community, so he did his version, the Zine Kechik Gila.

The Gambar Paling Korea was the first zine in the series, along with the Gambar Kerja Gila; Design for People, content from one of Hidayat’s keynote slides and Nota Kechik Gila, of which the latter two series are no more in production. In 2025, the Zine Kechik Gila series expands to Gambar Paling Sorens and Gambar Paling Jepun, both are from travel photos of the Studio HDJ’s team members, Erliani and Hazim.
